This is going to be a rapid tutorial, good if you've only got 10 minutes to spare or you get bored easily. You will learn how to create an 'out of bounds' style which is a creative and impressive way to show of your photographs.

STEP 1:

Start by creating a new document in Adobe Photoshop, here I used 1800x1800px. Now paste in the image you will use, the one I used can be found here. the foreground color to a bright color like pink.

STEP 2:

the foreground color to a bright color like pink. Select the rectangle shape tool (U) and in the main toolbar make sure that shape layers is selected as this will create a vector mask. the opacity of this layer to 50% then rotate and scale the shape until you are happy.

STEP 3:

Use either the pen tool (P) or the polygonal lasso tool (L) to draw a selection round the parts of your image which will come out of the photo. Hit D then make sure the layer mask of this layer is selected and hit .

STEP 4:

In the layers panel drag the layer mask onto the layer with your photo in it then hide the color layer.

STEP 5:

Select the background layer then repeat step 2 to achieve the same effect as below.

STEP 6:

Create a new layer (Shift+Ctrl+N) immediately above the background then select the gradient tool (G) and use a gradient going #f5f5f5 to #f6fdff, dragging just above the image to just below. Now select the layer mask on the layer directly above this one and drag it to the gradient layer then hide the color layer.

STEP 7:

Right click on this gradient layer and select blending options then add an outer glow with the settings shown below.

CONCLUSION:

Here you have learned to create an 'out of bounds' photo in a very quick and efficient way. Other details can be added like a shadow behind the person or a more stylized frame. The only other thing I added was a slight depth blur.
